Victoria Edwards

Victoria is a Legal Director and head of the travel team in the Leeds office. Victoria has over 24 years of experience in the industry and joined Weightmans in September 2024.

Victoria’s knowledge spans from pre-litigated slips and trips to complex high value litigated accidents that occur in foreign jurisdictions all over the world. She has vast experience in claims handling from sexual assault to multi claimant and defendant cases. Victoria is also highly valued by clients for her advice on policy coverage issues.

Before joining Weightmans Victoria grew her career from junior solicitor to partner at Plexus Law before moving to Crawford Legal Services to head the travel and casualty team as a Partner, board member and head of the Culture Committee to encourage diversity and equality. Victoria graduated from Huddersfield University in 1999 with a 2:1 degree.

Victoria handles a mixture of files from complex high value litigated cases to small claims where contract discrepancies and policy coverage are being challenged. Victoria deals with jurisdictional issues on a day to day basis globally, often acting for the insurance companies and the insured as well as for tour operators and booking platforms.

She is known in the travel industry for her expertise with claims dealing with issues regarding limitation, procedural arguments, implementation of foreign law and jurisdiction. She works closely with her team and her clients to ensure that the next generations knowledge is developed and grown.

Victoria dedicates time to ABTA, ITIC and Cii events to keep up to date with current market trends, sustainability and networking with new and current clients.

Victoria dealt with a class action following a road traffic accident in Greece which involved 31 claimants, making a successful recovery of damages, costs, disbursements and outlay in excess of £390k.

In a recovery claim involving a foreign national Victoria was successful in recovering $1.87 million New Zealand dollars following a road traffic accident-causing serious injuries to a cyclist.

Victoria was involved in a skiing accident claim which involved both a British national and an Austrian third party. The case was issued and served in Austria and went to trial where the hearing was held on the piste itself and was able to successfully recover damages for the claimant, outlay for the insurer client and costs.

Victoria successfully defendant a high-profile claim where the claimant was an employee of a magic circle law firm. The claim was potentially worth in excess of £1million due to the head injuries sustained and her and her team were able to successfully defend the claim proving that no policy coverage was in place for the activity in question.
