Roland is a Solicitor in the International Private Wealth team in London, having qualified in September 2020.
Roland advises clients on a variety of matters pertaining to private wealth law, including succession planning, estate administration, probate, trusts and UK tax advice for both UK based clients and clients based abroad.
In particular, Roland has extensive experience in dealing with a variety of complicated estate administrations and probates, including those involving international elements, complicated business and agricultural assets and their associated inheritance tax reliefs, and estates with a contentious element. He is particularly aware of the difficulties in dealing with the estate administration process for executors, many of whom are grieving family members themselves, and the need to provide practical and supportive advice to guide them through the process.
Roland has a particular interest in tax advisory, both for onshore clients with complicated and high net-worth estates, and for offshore clients with assets in the UK. He has advised several clients on the process for leaving the UK from a tax perspective, as well as provided advice on tax residency for clients offshore and the applicability of UK tax on their worldwide estate. He takes an all-encompassing approach to estate planning, being mindful that matters other than tax are important to consider, such as family dynamics, capacity and practical considerations. Roland is also experienced in advising on lifetime gifting, and the inheritance tax/capital gains tax implications associated. Roland also has advised clients on preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney.
