Michael Witten

Michael is an Associate in our Health and care team in Leeds.

Michael joined Weightmans in January 2025 as an Associate solicitor in the Health and care team in Leeds.

He acts on behalf of NHS trusts in clinical claims under the instruction of NHS Resolution, managing a varied caseload of pre-action and litigated files that include various complex matters litigated in the High Court. Prior to joining Weightmans, Michael worked at another NHS panel firm for over five years, where he gained experience in dealing with birth injury, neurological, amputation, cauda equina and sensory loss claims and was known for settling a high number of claims at an early stage and achieving good results for clients.

Michael takes pride in providing clear, succinct and commercially orientated advice that allows the client to make sensible economic decisions at an early a stage as possible. He has experience of conducting advocacy at mediations and court hearings, and of holding conference with witnesses and experts to discuss issues around liability. Before working in clinical claims, Michael worked for around five years in defendant occupational health and industrial disease litigation, first at a large national firm and then a newly formed specialist defendant occupational disease firm. These roles involved defending claims such as mesothelioma, upper limb disorders and noise-induced hearing loss for insurer clients on behalf of various large construction, food manufacturing and energy companies. Michael enjoyed many successes at trial and gained expertise in defending matters under the Limitation Act 1980.
