The ranking positions the firm in the UK’s top 1% of legal and accounting businesses for ESG/sustainability performance and processes.

The Top 40 law firm moved from Bronze to Silver rating in 2023 but has leaped past Gold to receive Platinum in 2024 after scoring high in the following areas: Environment, Ethics, Labor and Human Rights and Sustainable Procurement, all of which were rated good and above.

Simon Colvin, partner who leads Weightmans’s ESG programme, said:

“This is an incredible achievement for Weightmans and is significant recognition of the work we are doing in our ambition to be one of the UK’s most socially and environmentally conscious law firms. This ranking certainly sets us ahead of many of our competitors.

“A huge thank you must go to our people who are passionate about ESG and who have contributed to improving our performance in the four areas of this assessment. A special mention goes to Abhay Srivastava, our head of ESG. Of course, the work continues in our ESG journey.

“We look forward to working and collaborating further with our clients in relation to their own ESG journeys, supporting them with their overall ESG programmes and their specific environmental, social and governance needs. We also have a few partnerships in the pipeline that we are developing with an aim of supporting end to end ESG journeys for our existing and new clients.”

The report highlighted the firm’s Top Employer status, which was awarded for the 17th time earlier this year with a top 10 ranking, by the global body, Top Employers Institute.

The news follows:

  • The company’s announcement earlier this month that it had established a new ESG Advisory Group to ensure the business meets its many strategic priorities in this area, such as its commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2030
  • The firm receiving the Legal 500 ESG Award for its mental health and wellbeing programme
