Weightmans has advised the consortium led by Eddie Jordan, in its acquisition of London Irish rugby club.
Strangford Ellis Ltd, a special purpose vehicle managed by Jordan Associates, completed the acquisition of key assets of the club out of administration from Evelyn Partners. The acquisition marks a significant step towards revitalising one of rugby's most cherished clubs, originally founded in 1898.
The primary goal of the new ownership is to return London Irish to the pinnacle of international professional club rugby, aiming for a swift return to top-flight competition. The club will establish its playing base in West London.
Paul Raftery, partner, Weightmans, said:
“It was a huge pleasure to help achieve the first stage in the restoration of such an iconic rugby brand and institution as London Irish. As ever these things are a team effort and thanks to great support from colleagues, in particular Michael Murphy, Charles Boyne, Kiri Hutton and John Kemp.”
Jordan Associates' senior partner, Kyle Jordan, commented:
"We are incredibly excited about this opportunity to steer London Irish towards new heights. Our investors bring not just financial backing but a profound passion for rugby and a commitment to the community and in particular want to reach out to the global Irish diaspora to build the exile brand.
Dan McKeown, Strangford Ellis, commented:
“Thank you to Paul and the Weightmans’ team, whose expertise and commitment guided us through the entire process from start to completion.”
