Awards for Managing Partner, John Schorah, the See the Possibility campaign, and the ESG and CyXcel teams
Weightmans has won several top accolades at the LexisNexis Awards 2025.
As voted for by the legal community, the firm’s managing partner, John Schorah, was announced Legal Personality of the Year at the ceremony in London – coming within weeks of John stepping down from the role after 12 years.
The firm’s See the Possibility marketing campaign also won the Business Development Award, while its ESG team celebrated after receiving a Highly Commended in the Sustainability category.
The LexisNexis Legal Awards honour legal excellence, integrity and the rule of law, celebrating diversity and innovation in the legal space, and recognising pioneering legal professionals and hard-working law firms.
The news comes in the same week that CyXcel, a Weightmans business that uniquely fuses legal and technical cyber expertise, was named Best Cyber Start-Up of the Year at the Cyber Security Awards. The Cyber Security Awards recognise and reward the best individuals, teams, and companies in the cybersecurity industry, celebrating excellence and innovation at the core of every category.
Weightmans’s ESG team also won ESG Firm of the Year at the Legal 500 Northern Powerhouse Awards 2025. The awards throw the spotlight on the roster of legal talent and excellence across the North, North West, and Yorkshire & the Humber, recognising their hard work and accomplishments over the past year with the Legal 500’s national and international audiences.

John Schorah, managing partner, said:
“I am so proud of our people and the hard work they have put in to making Weightmans the success story it is today – these awards are for them, and I am grateful to every single one of them.
“It has been incredible to see our purpose, See the Possibility, come to life over the last year, not only through our communications but in how our people have adopted and embraced it at every level of the firm. Likewise, our ESG team has made great strides in making Weightmans one of the UK’s most socially and environmentally conscious law firms. I am delighted that both initiatives have been honoured this week.
“Of course, I step down as Managing Partner later this month, but I leave a firm that is robust and thriving, and that is all down to our people.”
The news comes on the back of a raft of successes for the top 40 firm during the last year. Its 23/24 results saw its strongest financial results in its history with net profit up 41% on the previous year, meaning all staff received a bonus of almost £3,000 each in recognition of their contribution to the firm’s successful year; in January 2025 Weightmans was awarded UK Top 10 Employer status for the 18th year in a row – reaching its highest ranking ever at number five; while the firm received the highest Platinum rating by EcoVadis, a global sustainability rating provider, positioning the firm in the top 1% of legal and accounting businesses globally for ESG/sustainability performance and processes.
The See the Possibility campaign also won two awards at the global Drum Awards - Best Limited Budget campaign and Best Social Media campaign.
Sarah Walton, current Client Relationships Director, will assume managing partner role at Weightmans from April 1, 2025.
