Weightmans welcomes Aidan Thomson, expert environmental lawyer to join Weightmans team of ESG experts in London.
National law firm, Weightmans, has welcomed a leading figure in the environmental sphere to its London office.
Aidan Thomson, previously the head of environmental law in London at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP, has been practicing environmental law for over thirty years (twenty at partner level) and specialises in environmental liability and compliance issues.
At Weightmans, Aidan’s focus will be helping to grow and develop the environment work the firm does with its insurance clients. He will also work alongside Weightmans’ head of ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance), Abhay Srivastava, to further strengthen the firm’s ESG offering to its clients, especially those in the insurance sector.
Simon Colvin, partner who leads Weightmans’s ESG programme, said:
“Aidan is a leading light in the environmental world, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the team at an exciting time in the firm’s ESG journey. His credentials speak for themselves, and I know he will contribute immensely to our ESG programme, both by supporting our clients with their ESG endeavors, as well as supporting Abhay with our own ambitions to be one of the UK’s most socially and environmentally conscious law firms.
“As issues such as sustainability and Net Zero (which are at the heart of ESG) become increasingly important to our clients and prospects, Aidan’s expertise for advising around these emerging environmental issues will be key.”
Aidan Thomson, partner at Weightmans, said:
“Weightmans is a great new home for me. The platform here is very strong for the types of clients that I have traditionally worked for, particularly insurers, and for advising on emerging environmental issues. The support that is available here is fantastic and I am really looking forward to getting started.”
Aidan is well known to the insurance sector for his work on environmental wordings and on coverage and claims involving environmental subject matter both in the UK and internationally. His practice includes sustainability and net zero, central to ESG and high priorities within the insurance sector.
Aidan’s arrival comes after Weightmans recently received the highest Platinum rating by EcoVadis, a global sustainability rating provider, positioning the firm in the top 1% of legal and accounting businesses globally for ESG/sustainability performance and processes.
This was then followed by the firm achieving ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certifications for the fifth year in a row, providing further recognition for its sustainability policies, including its commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2030.
