The immigration salary list is a list of occupations where a reduced general salary threshold applies to visa applications on the Skilled Worker route. It was introduced on 4 April 2024, replacing the previous shortage occupation list. If a job is included on the immigration salary list, the salary threshold is 80% of the skilled worker route’s usual minimum rate, so £30,960 or £23,200, depending on whether the general £38,700 or £29,000 rate would otherwise apply.

It is important to note that the annual salaries stated in the immigration salary list are based on a 37.5-hour working week. The salary must be pro-rated for other working patterns, based on the weekly working hours.

While the immigration salary list covers a reduced number of jobs in comparison to the shortage occupation list, there are still benefits.

Reduced salary requirements

The list allows UK employers to access a wider talent pool at a reduced salary rate. However, where the shortage occupation list contained all occupations experiencing labour shortages, the Immigration salary list offers a discounted salary threshold where the Government considers it sensible.

Flexibility

It is intended for the immigration salary list to be flexible. It will be regularly reviewed by the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), to ensure that the occupations listed align with the labour force needs.

You can check which jobs are on the immigration salary list in each area of the UK here: Skilled Worker visa: immigration salary list.

Visa application fee discount

Applicants employed in roles on the immigration salary list benefit from a reduced visa fee. Roles on the Health and Care visa already benefit from a lower visa fee and so won’t see an additional benefit.

Summary

Take care to ensure that you do not state that a job is on the immigration salary list, when it is not. Doing so will result in inconsistencies or mistakes in the visa application, which is likely to lead to complications.
