Case study: South Lakeland District Council

Reading time: 0 minute read

We are advising South Lakeland District Council on its disabled facilities grants policy and related documentation in light of guidance issued by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Department of Health and Social Care.

Disabled Facilities Grants are capital grants that are available to people of all ages and in all housing tenures (i.e. whether renting privately, from a social landlord or council, or owner-occupiers) to contribute to the cost of adaptations. They are administered by local housing authorities in England and enable eligible disabled people to continue living safely and independently at home.

We reviewed the Council’s policy and the documentation which it issues to applicants. We also advised on the role of the Council with regard to the appointment of contractors to undertake the work, and the Council’s obligations to consult on changes to its policy and documentation.
