The claimant was injured in a road traffic accident and liability was agreed on a 50/50 basis. The claimant suffered multiple injuries including a brain injury.
The claimant had a chequered employment history, and investigations were hampered by:
- A custodial sentence in October 2019 for conspiracy to supply drugs and associated arms offences.
- A proposed deportation to Italy.
- Very aggressive behaviour – the case managers and experts instructed to assess him “feared for their lives”.
- Abuse of class A drugs.
- Several suicide attempts stemming, in part, from childhood sexual abuse.
We were ultimately able to investigate the claim and narrow issues. As a result, we were able to settle this very complex claim for only £80,000.
